Sir, |
I have the honor to acknowledge the recpt
of your letter in reply to my communication addressed to the Supt. |
In reply, I cannot but state that the tax
upon yr. Road is fully appreciated & that when our war is over those who
will have done so much for our common cause will have good cause for
self congratulation & will not be forgotten by our Govt people, but in
the light demand I've asked of the road, merely to haul one hundred
cords of wood, which I have bought, had cut & brought to the road &
agreements made to have it loaded on the cars only 26 miles distant, I
cannot see, when I only ask it to be done at your leisure, provided I am
made sure of it, I cannot see & say, that I have asked too much. |
As for the supplies & facilities of the
tow works referred to in your letter, compound with each other, I am not
prepared to say or expect to know anything of them, other than as may be
stated by this representation. |
The Agt. for the Ga. R. R. tells me that
he has always been ??? for wood & more than other ???. The ??? about, is
reported from your Road, & I an not to judge in the matter at all. |
I would only ask that when it may be
needed, & at your engines such wood as I may have bought & paid for on
your road may be hauled. I dont ask it of the road. I mean to furnish
the wood. I beg from private individuals who have as much right to sell
their wood as any thing else. I ask that the wood may be hauled as any
other freight & as the people propose to cut or put wood on the road for
me, I dont know that any right is vested in the RRoad to take if from
there any more than they could take their meat or flour. |
I am, Sir, |
Very Resply |
