Sir, |
I am informed by the Quartermaster to whom
I had applied for transportation for some wood purchased by me for the
C. S. Arsenal in this city that you had stopped all wood on the Road &
prohibited any more being brought down the Road. |
The wood is for the Government, the
Government needs the wood to carry on the ???, the object of the
establishments here is to prepare ammunition, to repair arms & construct
??? or equipment for our troops in the field. |
This Arsenal is now supplying the whole
Army in Tennessee & Ky, & many articles to every Division of the C. S.
Armies. Without fail all must stop. |
The Ga. R. R. has kindly hauled my 283
cords of wood, but that is not what I shall want for the winter. I have
purchased some 175 cords on your Road. You have hauled about 50 of it.
The Balance you say I cannot have. What then is to be done. You must be
fully aware that my establishment cannot be supplied from the wagons on
the street. What would be said of the Gov. Agent who would let his
business operate upon such a source & at such prices as wood carts on
the streets taken into consideration besides. |
The Ga. R. R. has furnished its full
quota. I cannot ask them to do more. |
I have the honor to request that you will
please inform me whether I am to get the wood or not, if not I request
that this communication be forwarded to the President of the Road
{which would be the Governor of Georgia}. |
I am, Sir, |
