My Dear Johny |
|
***** I was in Winchester
yesterday. There are about 5,000 militia there and McDonald's Regiment
of Cavalry. Col Turner Ashby belongs to it, with his Battalion. He ran
all the Federals off from Harpers ferry a day or so since, killing,
drowning some, as they tried to cross the river, & took some
prisoners. We are now bringing away to send to Richmond, some very
fine R. Road machinery and cars from the town of Martinsburg, where
Genl Patterson was stationed with his Federal forces, before the
battle of Manassas. ***** |
