Dear Sir, |
In June last we took an order from the
Virginia Central RRoad Co to build an iron bridge over the Jackson
River. Pressing engagements for the Government have prevented our
doing that work, which we learn is now much needed by the Company to
insure the speedy transporting of troops to & from that section. |
Our object in addressing you is to enquire
whether it comports with the interests of the public service that the
work shall be completed which will delay probably the completion of
field guns, occasionally for a period of one month. The whole delay
would not probably amount to the completion of 10 field guns between
this time & 1st January; and not so much if we are fortunate
enough as to keep our tools manned for the whole period. |
Very respectfully |
