Report of the Examining Committee
|
|
The Committee of examination offered the
following report, which was received and approved: |
|
To the Stockholders: |
The Examining Committee, appointed at the
last meeting, have inspected the road as far as “Hamilton’s
Crossing”, beyond which point the road has been torn up so as to be
impassable. The bridges between that point and Richmond, which were
destroyed during the last year, have all been replaced by structures
which are strong and sufficiently durable to last several years.
Notwithstanding the unusual amount of trade and travel induced by the
presence of the army at the northern extremity of the road, and the
unusually wet winter and spring, we found the road, at our last trip
over it, in very good working order, and perfectly safe. The
machinery, too, seems to be kept in remarkably good order, considering
the constant use to which it has been subjected for the last six
months. So far as your committee have been able to ascertain, the
business of the company seems to have been conducted with great
regularity and dispatch, and in a manner highly creditable to the
officers of the company. |
All of which is respectfully reported. |
