{From the minutes of the
Directors' Meeting of the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac RR,
August 20, 1863} |

There being no quorum present Mr Robinson
stated that the mission of Mr Gentry to Wilmington for the purpose of
placing the joint bonds and securities of this and other Companies in
the hands of Col ??t for transmission to Capt Robinson at London,
having failed of its accomplishment by reason of his detention by
accidents on the way, the meeting had been called at his instance to
authorize the Treasurer to place these bonds and securities in the
hands of a gentleman who would start in a few days for England, and
who had kindly consented to take them in charge and attend to their
delivery. The gentleman referred to was Mr A Frederick Volck who, tho
unknown to him before, was represented by gentlemen of standing here
as a person to whose care they might be safely committed. Col Mumford
had been consulted on the subject and had signified his concurrence,
and as his presence only was necessary to the formal action of the
Board, he proposed that the Treasurer be authorized to place the tin
box containing the joint bonds and securities of this and the Va
Central and Seaboard & Roanoke Rail Road Companies, in the charge
of Mr Volck, and to tender him on behalf of these companies a check
for Three hundred dollars for any trouble and expense he may be at in
delivering the same, which was unanimously agreed to. Col Mumford
subsequently concurred in the above action. |
