The President submitted the following a?? relative to
the purchase of supplies for the road, with Chamberlain & Co.,
which was ratified. |
Memorandum of agreement this day entered
into between the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Rail Road
Company and Chamberlain & Co. Importers of British supplies for
this Government and the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Rail
Road Company. |
Witnesseth: That the said Chamberlain
& Co. agree to purchase in England a certain list of supplies, for
the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Rail Road Company as per
Statement Marked A being a pact of the Contract. They are to be
purchased from first class dealers and at the lowest market rates and
delivered to said Rail Road Company or their agent during the months
of November, December & January next at some point in the
possession of the Government of the Confederate States and at which
the Government freights brought in the same vessel shall be delivered.
Upon the delivery of the articles purchased by said Chamberlain &
Co. for said Rail Road Company in good order and during the time
specified and upon producing the original English invoices, the said
Rail Road Company agree to pay to the said Chamberlain & Co. or
their assign in Confederate States Bonds or Notes at the option of
said Chamberlain & Co. or their assigns three times the amount of
said original invoices, and that the said payment is to be in full of
all purchasing, commissions, charges for insurance, freight or other
transportation expenses and all cost. The above mentioned Bonds are to
be Confederate States Bonds, bearing eight per cent per annum
interest. The list of supplies to be furnished under this agreement is
to be attached hereto. |
