The Committee appointed to confer with Dr.
Willis in relation to the lease of the Aug. & Sav. Rail Road,
submitted the following, |
The undersigned a committee appointed to
confer with the Augusta & Savannah Rail Road Company to ascertain
if their Rail Road could be leased & on what terms, respectfully Report,
that the said Rail Road can be leased by this Company during Charter,
for the sum of Seventy three Thousand Dollars per annum payable half
yearly. |
The Augusta & Savannah Rail Road is
well built, fully equipped & in good condition. It has cost over
One Million Two Hundred Thousand Dollars & in the opinion of this
Committee, is worthy, with the entire equipment, Twenty Thousand Five
Hundred Dollars per mile. |
The Committee recommend to the Board that
the said Rail Road be leased by this Company, during Charter, at the
aforesaid rate, & in as much as the organization of the Augusta
& Savannah Rail Road Company must be kept up, that the President
& Directors be allowed free travel between Savannah and Augusta.
The Committee further recommend that application be made to the
Legislature for authority to amalgamate the Stock of the two companies
upon such terms as may hereafter be agreed upon. |
