The work on the bridge here
{Alabama & Mississippi Rivers RR} is very
much behind hand & progressing very slowly. Mr. Barker is active &
energetic and doing as well as he can, but I think your presence here &
direct personal attention would expedite the work very much and I hope
soon to se you here to remain some time. The mills have not commenced
cutting yet & I fear from appearances it will be some time before they
do. The want of labor is very much felt. Can you not do something to
relieve this? The river now is now rapidly approaching low water & every
preparation should be made to put in foundations the moment at reaches
that point. Write me when you will be here. |
