{Sent to N. C. Governor Vance, but salutation not provided in the printed version.}

   A friend of mine has just informed me that your Excellency had addressed me one or more letters relative to transportation of Cotton & that you thought proper attention had not been given thereto. The facts are that I was waited on at Warsaw by Mr Litchford with an order from Col Little requesting the transpon aforesaid -- I replied that I would do all I could to facilitate it & advised him to proceed to the next station (Magnolia) & see our Supt. Col. Fremont -- he did so, & next morning returned with Col Fremont, when I was informed as soon as the Cotton was ready, notice was to be given us, & we would send a train for it -- We have had a train hauling cotton & yours would have been transported had we been informed it was ready. I assure you Govr that it is my desire to aid the State in every means I can, public or private.
   It is only necessary to inform me as to your wishes -- the order referred to is the only communication I have recd.
