Sir, |
I have been informed by
several persons, that the Charlotte and Columbia Road {Charlotte
& South Carolina RR} of which you are
President has failed to respect my proclamation forbidding the
exportation of certain articles from the State &c. I hope this is
incorrect, as besides thwarting my earnest efforts to lower the prices
of provisions -- certainly a most desirable object -- it would compel
me either to overlook it entirely or to take steps to enforce the
proclamation, which, considering the relations we have occupied would
be in the last degree repugnant to my feelings. The other roads have
cheerfully yielded obedience to my wishes. I should be pleased to hear
from you and have the honor to be -- |
Most respectfully |
