On motion of Mr. Hill the
reading of the proceedings of the last meeting was passed over for the
present. |

Mr. Hill submitted a
communication from the Superintendent of the Richmond & Danville
Railroad Company to the Quartermaster General, Confederate States, and
referred by him to the Council, upon the subject of the inadequate
supply of water to meet the demands of the Government for
transportation for the Army of General Lee, in consequence of the want
of pumps and water tanks on the line, and suggesting that fire engines
be obtained from the City for temporary use upon the road. |
On motion of Mr. Hill, the
communication was referred to the Chairman of the Committee on the
Fire Department, with authority to act in the premises as he may deem
expedient and proper. |
