Roadway -- During the month of March, 1865, a
heavy freshet washed away the pile bridges at Yocona and Long creek,
together with the temporary structures over South and Middle
Tillatolba. We replaced these temporary structures with permanent
piling, and the piling was renewed at Yocona and Long creek. This work
was completed on the 23d of May, on which day the train ran to the
Tallahatchie river. While this work was being repaired the train only
ran from this place to Yocona and Long creek, respectively. We,
however, had horse cars run from these points as high as Senatobia,
which prevented our receipts from materially diminishing.
|
The decayed condition of cross-ties and many of the
trestles between this point and the Tallahatchie river required us to
keep constantly at work, and heavy expenses have been incurred on this
account. A portion of this work has been charged to
"reconstruction," but the greater portion was charged to
"maintenance of way" for the work done south of the
Tallahatchie.

***** We have no depot buildings in which to receive and
store freight, no platforms, insecure cars, many changes, and
inefficient connection. *****
