|
Memphis, Tenn. October 19, 1861 |
|
To the Stockholders of the Mississippi &
Tennessee Railroad Company: |
The undersigned Committee,
appointed by the Board of Directors of your Company, on the 24th of
September last, to examine the books of the office of Secretary and
Treasurer of said Company, beg leave, respectfully, to submit herein
their report. |
The Committee entered into
the discharge of their duty on the 7th and ended it on the 19th inst,
during which time they examined the General Cash and all other Accounts
of the office, ad take pleasure to say that the highest order of
integrity and honesty of purpose is exhibited in every department. We
found but few errors, such as are unavoidable in the complexity of so
extensive an amount of business. |
It is due to the officers to say that the Committee were
afforded, during their investigation, every facility to make it
pleasant and agreeable. |
Your Committee feel it their
duty earnestly to suggest a change in the practice of the Superintendent
issuing a card on which is stated the amount due the bearer for work
done, and by the Treasurer paid, before the monthly pay-roll is returned
by him to the office. |
