Annual Report of the Macon & Brunswick RR |
as of January 1, 1866, |
Superintendent's Report |
|
Superintendent's Office Macon &
Brunswick R. R. |
Macon, February 1st, 1866 |
|
Geo. H. Hazlehurst, Esq. |
President |
|
Sir, |
The seventh annual report, showing the operations of this
road for fiscal year ending January 31, 1866, is hereby submitted.
|
|
Earnings in confederate money from
February 1 to May 31, 1865: |
From freight |
$106,604.35 |
From Passage |
39,319.15 |
Total |
$145,923.50 |
|
|
Owing to the confederate money being worthless, it is
deemed unnecessary to give expenses from February 1 to May 31, 1865,
in that currency. The confederate government, however, did not pay us
anything during the last six months of its existence: the expenses
therefore exceeded the income during that period.
|
*****
|
Owing to heavy rains the latter part of February last, no
trains were run from February 28 to March 2, inclusive, three days;
road bed was slightly washed at 2 1/2 and 6 1/2 mile post. With this
exception the trains have been run with great regularity and without
any accident whatever.
|
The iron between No. 3 1/2, Coley's Station, and No. 5,
Cochran's Station, for a distance of two and one-half miles, was taken
up by confederate authority in March last; this iron was used by the
Macon & Western and Georgia railroad in relaying their track,
(then destroyed by the federal army.) *****
|
In my last report I urged upon the company the necessity
of changing our present location. I must again call your attention to
this matter. *****
|
Respectfully submitted.
