My dear Sir,

I don’t know how to thank you for your kind letters of
the 13th and 17th inst. The Salt at Saltville is
intended for our people in North Alabama, & I should have so advised you in my former letter. We can get
it through from Chattanooga, & if your train can deliver it there, it can return, I hope,
without inconvenience, &, perhaps with more expedition, to convey
additional supplies for Georgia. I will send a messenger, on notice, to accompany the train, and make
all needful advances, and will promptly remit, to your order, whatever
sum you may deem proper to report, for the use of the train. The
letter from Govr Brown – enclosed by you – is herewith returned.
