Dear Sir, |
You will on receipt of this proceed to
pick up such articles as will be needed here on the defenses of Atlanta,
say all tools, bacon, peas, sacks, osnaburgs and domestics, ??? &c. and
dispose of such articles as tables, furniture, cookery &c. if you sell
to advantage, otherwise bring all with you. You will please call upon
the Quarter Master of Transportation at Mobile who will issue
transportation from Jackson's Creek to Mobile and from Mobile to
Atlanta, and will include yourself, thirty five negroes more or less and
the overseer. |
You will call on Col. Jno. W. Balfour at
Montgomery and report his negroes in Montgomery. If he declines to let
them pass to Atlanta, turn them over to his charge, and come to Atlanta
with the tools provisions &c If you find it expedient to turn over to
the Quarter Master or Commissary at Mobile any articles please take
receipts in duplicate as required by the service. |
The shanties and improvements made by you
please leave in charge of the Supt. of the State works. Nails are worth
$125 per keg here. Sell if you can get that price. |
You are hereby fully authorized to do all
that may be necessary to transfer the tools, supplies, hands &c from the
Salt works to Atlanta or Montgomery, as the case may be. |
