General, |
I have the honor to represent to you my
inability to command the services of the assistant who has heretofore
been in my service. Will you be kind enough to apply for the detail of
my son Private John A. Grant Co A. 63rd Ga Regt recently transformed
from Mercer's Brigade to some Brigade in Cleburn's Division. The young
man has had some experience in my service a a Civil Engineer. In a
conversation this morning with Lieut Genl Hardee he kindly consented to
approve and recommended the detail knowing my son and being cognizant of
his exhausted condition from the fatigues & expenses of the campaign
from Dalton to Atlanta. |
At the suggestion of Genl Hardee I make
this request. It will hardly be possible for me to give proper attention
to the details of the work under my charge without the aid of an
assistant. |
I am General |
Very Respectfully |
