You are hereby authorized and ordered to
contract for the lumber and execute the carpentry necessary for the
complete duplication of the Howe's Truss Bridge on the line of the E.
Ten. & Ga. Rail Road over the Tennessee River at London. The duplicate
Bridge when framed to be carefully marked & filed and to be housed at
some convenient place for loading on to cars on the line of the Central
Georgia Rail Road approved by myself or my successor. The Confed. Govt
to pay transportation of lumber from the mills to the proper place for
framing & housing and to furnish transportation for hands to & from the
work on the commencement & completion of the same and I hereby agree as
agent for the Confed Government to pay for the said Bridge so framed and
housed at the rate of Fifty five dollars per lineal foot for the lumber
and framing of said bridge housed as aforesaid. The Govt to pay for the
lumber necessary to house said Bridge and the transportation therefor.
And I hereby agree to pay such a price as may be deemed fair and right
for wooden angle blocks if the same shall be adopted in lieu of cast
iron. |

We agree to the execution of the above order in
accordance with terms and prices and guarantee to complete the Bridge
before the 1st January 1864. |
