Dear Sir, |
You are hereby authorizes to hire negroes
to labor on the Govt. Salt works at Jackson's Creek, Clark Co. Ala. the
limit in number to be two hundred (200). You will please hire also the
requisite number of overseers, say one to each squad of thirty negroes.
The term of hire to be six months. |
You are also authorized to purchase
subsistence for the negroes, sufficient for ten days rations, to be used
during the transit of the negroes to the works, and until supplies can
be forwarded from Mobile. |

Quarter Masters of transportation will
please give transportation for all overseers, negroes and supplies that
may be hired and purchased by James L. Grant Esq. for the Govt works
