| Yours of the 8th inst. came to hand
yesterday. |
| There has been confusion in the matter of
duplication of Bridges. Contracts have been entered into of which I have
only recently been advised. Others of which I had advice in 1863 have
been suspended. |
| Duplicates are now in readiness except
rods and other irons for Chattahoochee, Pettis' creek and 5 crossings of
Chickamauga. Of the latter you are cognizant, and have information of
the rods and other irons on hand. I shall order a duplicate of
Oostanaula. If an emergency should occur requiring a duplicate at the
Resaca crossing, 3 spans of the Chickamauga Bridge can be readily
adapted to that place. {all on the Western &
