You are hereby requested to proceed with
your force of negroes (30 more or less) to the salt works on Jackson's
Creek Clark Co. Alabama, and, commence the work authorized and required
to be executed by Col. J. R. Gilmer Chief of the Engineer Bureau for the
manufacture of salt. Amory Dexter Esq. Civil Engineer will give the
necessary directions for prosecuting the work. You are authorized to
employ overseers for the force of negroes, and to increase the force by
hiring. You are also authorized to purchase the necessary supplies to
subsist the force. |
