Your letter of the 12th is just at hand. I
can only say in reply that we will run the cars with families as near
the work as the sidings will admit. I can sell a ration to each man at
Govt price. As to your own pay I am willing to pay a full price, not an
extravagant one. If it is the desire of Dr Phillips & Govr Brown to run
the State Road with the remaining rolling stock and outfit it would seem
to be their policy to give all reasonable aid in repairing the Geo RRoad
to Atlanta, as from present indications it is through this channel only
that they can hope to reach Atlanta for many months. |
It is for Dr Phillips and yourself to
decide whether your force is more profitably employed in its present
locality than it would be on the repairs of Geo RRd. |
