Major, |
I have the honor to acknowledge the
receipt of your circular of the 1st Inst. with the extract from General
Orders No. 78 of the War Department. |
The work of rebuilding bridges & repairs
of track on the Geo RRoad is now in progress. The work is comprised in 3
important bridges and 38 miles of track. Of the latter about 15 miles
will require iron rails from other sources. About 23 miles of bent rails
can be straightened. Cross ties will be needed for from 25 to 30 miles.
Much of the labor must be performed by White hands (Carpenters &
Experts) and the transportation by teams hired in the country adjacent
to the Road. The forage must also be purchased in the country. Prompt
payment is absolutely indispensable to the progress of this work. I am
now without money. |
I am Major |
Very Respectfully |
