Colonel, |
I have the honor to forward by Express,
vouchers, abstracts, accounts of sales, and account currents for the
1st, 2d & 3d Quarters of the present year. You will please find herewith
a statement of actual expenditures and balance in my hands. Some of the
articles purchased in Mobile for the salt works did not meet my
approval. They appear among the articles sold. The movable property not
sold at the salt works or turned over to the Commissary in Mobile, was
shipped to Atlanta. |
In my informal statement, you will find a
large item for advances to Maxwell for rebuilding Watauga & Holston
Bridges. His statement has been rendered showing the expenditure, but
the proper vouchers have not been sent to me. Mr. Maxwell has been
within the enemy's lines since they have occupied Knoxville. |
No acknowledgement has been recd. from
Maj. Jas. Niquest of the sum ($50,000) transferred to him. |
The duplicates for Watauga & Holston
bridges are framed and housed 2 miles east of Atlanta on the line of the
Georgia Rail Road. |
I am colonel |
Very Respectfully |
