General, |
I have the honor to represent to you that
I have been entrusted by the Engineer Bureau with the rebuilding and
duplication of important bridges, some of which having been already
framed, and others yet to be provided. While other Departments of the
Govt requiring lumber have had the control of mills at reasonable rates,
through the detail of owners, this Department has been deprived of such
advantage and has been subject to exorbitant prices and previous supply.
I can now control a mill at a reasonable price for lumber. The mill is
being erected by Mallory Kent & Co. near the 83 Mile Turnout on Central
{(of Georgia)} RRd. The condition is that
Mr E. S. Mallory member of Capt Blunt's reserve cavalry under your
command, be detailed to assist in completing the mill and operate the
same after completion. I therefore respectfully & urgently request,
General, that you will detail Mr Mallory to me for said purpose, and
assure you that the request is based above upon the conviction of its
advantage to the Govt. |
I am General |
Very Respectfully |
