Dear Sir, |
I will try and have the negroes here on
next Monday week the 23 of the Present Inst will you have your agent and
transportation here early Monday morning It will take all day to make
out the roll and give receipts &c, our Superior Court Sits here on
Monday next and I cannot possibly attend to getting the hands here
before that time. it is a considerable Job to travel all over the County
and hunt up every man that have hands to provide. I had the hands all in
once before to send to Savannah and the morning they were to report I
received orders to hold on. I hope I will be disappointed again, the
hands cannot start up before tuesday morning unless you have an Train to
go up monday night which would be best as they would have to stay over
one night. When will the transportation from West Point & Hogansville to
this Point as we cannot reach all the Places in one day. There will be
between 150 & 175 hands I suppose Several that I enrolled have been
taken off with the State Troops therefore I do not know the precise
number that I will get. I wish you to give me the Power to Impress the
negroes so that I can take those of Guardians & Administers they are
perfectly willing for them to go but if they send them voluntary they
think the law will make them liable for them in case of death yours
respectfully |
