| I have the honor to report that the work
entrusted to my charge has progressed quite slowly. All efforts to
obtain negro labor have proved abortive. A second impressment is now
being made, but the number of slaves subject to be taken under the
impressment law is found to be small. I have now 140 hands with which we
are making all the progress due to this force engaged. |
