Colonel, |
Your dispatch of the 16th was recd. on
yesterday 19th. The grading between Blue Mountain Ala. and Rome Ga. is I
understand completed to a point 5 miles north of Jacksonville from Blue
Mountain. No work has been done under the appropriation on the Geo. or
Rome end. There is equivalent to 24 1/2 miles graded, leaving about 36
1/2 miles of light grading to be done. A force of 2000 hands ought to
complete the grading Masonry & Bridging in three months. |
The Ala. & Ten. River Rail Road Co. have
not prosecuted the work with any vigor. There have been many
difficulties, mainly from the condition of the currency, and as the
prospect for procuring iron rails seemed to be utterly obscured, the Co.
has made no effort to press forward the work. |
I am Colonel |
Very Respectfully |
L. P. Grant |
