Captain, |
Yours of the 25th and 26th have been
received. I regret very deeply the annoyances and indignities to which
you have been subjected. The conduct of Genl. Green is unaccountable. It
will be proper to make a statement of the case to Col. Gilmer. While it
is hard to forbear under such circumstances, yet no satisfaction could
result from making a personal issue with Genl. Green. On two occasions
he has agreed to let us take 15 tons of iron; and I paid for two
dispatches to Capt. Arnold to that effect. If you are prevented from
shipping the iron, telegraph me and I will make an effort elsewhere. I
am now waiting the arrival of a draft from the Treasurer which for some
unknown reason has been delayed ten days. |
With Kind wishes |
I am Yours truly |
