Dear Sir, |
On receiving notice from Col. Gilmer that
funds had been placed to my credit in Chattanooga to pay bills incurred
for Watauga and Holston bridges, I supposed that the funds had been
placed there simultaneously with his notice. A few days ago I received
notice from the Second Auditor that a requisition had been issued in my
favor, and that I would receive a draft from the Treasurer on the
Depository at Chattanooga. The draft has not yet been received. As soon
as it comes to hand, I will go to Knoxville and provide for the amount
you need. |
I fear that we will be delayed with the
long lumber on the Western & Atlantic R. R. Mr. Walker at first refused
positively to let the cars be attached to his trains, but at my request
he consented to make one more trial. If no other plan will answer, we
must place men on the cars to keep the loading in adjustment. |
Have Lewis & Jones a contract for
furnishing iron to the Govt.? If so, I can probably get the quantity you
need, to replace the iron taken from the Clinch bridge. I am glad to
hear that you are making such fair progress with the bridges. Do not
forget the pledge I have made to the Central {(of
Georgia)} & S. Western R. R. Cos. about the return of the cars. |
