{From the minutes of the Directors' Meeting of the Alabama & Mississippi Rivers RR, August 1, 1860}

The Board met pursuant to adjournment President and Directors present as on yesterday
   A communication from the Chief Engineer was recd, to the Board, as to the resources and means for building the road on each of the three proposed routes.
   After being fully discussed the following resolution offered by F. S. Lyon was adopted
   Resolved as the opinions of the board, that the Rail Road from Union town west would to connect with the Southern road of Mississippi to Vicksburg & the Mobile & Ohio Road & with the NE & SW {Alabama} Road ought to be so located as to pass through the Canebrake near Demopolis & from thence west to near by over Statover, or thereabout, on the NE & SW RR. Same on the most favorable ground so as to make the route as direct as practicable towards the final destination of said Rail Road, To wit, Meridian in the State of Mississippi with due regard to economy & cheapness, of construction and proper grading for a good and effective road & that he report his action to this Board as soon as practicable.
