Directors' Meeting of the Alabama & Mississippi Rivers RR, July 21, 1863} |

| At a regular meeting of the board of
directors held this day, present directors J. L. Price, W. P. Bocock, W.
S. Knox and J. W. Lapsley. The President being absent Mr Bocock was
chosen President Pro-tem, and the meeting proceeded. |

| The following resolutions offered by Mr
Lapsley were adopted |
| Resolved That directors Bocock and Price,
the first named as Chairman, be and they are hereby appointed a
committee to propose a memorial to the War department, setting
forth the great detriment to this Company, by the constant and forcible
interference of the Military Officers of the Confederate States, with
the Machinery and business of the Company: thereby impeding the
operations of the Company to the injury of the Government as well as of
this Company and requesting the War department to give such orders as
will prevent the continuance of such interference and pledging this
Company, if forced to act, to to employ all their means for the
promptest practicable transportation of troops and munitions of war, and
all other property of the Government; and at the same time, bring to the
notice of the War department the special injury recently sustained by
the seizure and sinking of their barge by one of the officers and asking
compensation therefor. |
| Resolved That the Superintendent be
instructed, if in his opinion the interest of this Company requires it,
to cause to be raised a car barge used at our crossing of the Tombigbee
River at Demopolis and of the same some time since forcibly taken from
our possession and sunk by eight Military officers of the Confederate
States at Demopolis: Keeping a strict account of the expenses incurred
in carrying out this order and report the same, together with the los
and damage incurred by the sinking thereof, to this board. |
