{From the minutes of the Directors' Meeting of the Alabama & Mississippi Rivers RR, May 12, 1864}

Demopolis May 12th 1864
The Annual Convention of Stockholders in the Alabama & Mississippi Rivers Rail Road Company assembled this day at Demopolis at 12 oclock

   The Committee appointed at the last annual convention "to go over the road and examine the Condition of the same and all matters connected with its operations" made the following report through Geo G Lyon Esqr their Chairman
   "To the Stockholders of the Al & Miss Rivers Rail Road Company:
   At your last annual meeting Geo G Lyon W E Clarke & G W Whitfield Esqr were appointed a committee to go over the Road and examine the condition of the same & all matters connected with it operations & report to this meeting.
   The undersigned as one of the Committee begs leave to report that last fall he made a trip to Selma over said Road and found the Road in good condition, the officers, books and all matters connected with the operations of the Road working well, and upon inquiry I found no complaint against any of the officers. That he made two trips over the western end of said Road to Meridian, one in the last fall and one about the 19th day of December 1863 and found all things working right, except that there was no fire or water kept in the cars as the laws of Mississippi & Alabama require & I noticed that it caused considerable suffering among the soldiers & other passengers all of which he reported, on his return, to the President. And the undersigned further reports that he faced great inconvenience and complaint caused by the want of a station house or shed in place for passengers to stay at in Meridian while waiting for the cars & great inconvenience produced these for the want of an agent to take charge of baggage going there both of which he believes has prevented some travel from going that way. That an agent night be employed by the Road to receive & check the Baggage & who could make a change that would more than reimburse the Road the amt of his salary & expenses -- all of which is respectfully submitted
G. G. Lyon
