Below is my biography of
W. D. Wood. Though he was in the Army, there is no biography of him in the National Archives.

William D. Wood was born in
Illinois in 1824 and moved to Hardin County, Kentucky in time to
marry there in 1850. In the 1860 Census, there were three children
and he is listed as a Manufacturer of Agricultural Implements, with
$600 Real Estate and $1,400 Personal Estate. |
William was appointed a Transportation
Agent, by Major W. S. Ashe, for Raleigh, N. C. No appointment
documents have been found, but he was on duty there in February and
March, 1862. There are no further records of his service until his
appointment as a Quartermaster Captain on October 14, 1862. He was
assigned to 2nd Ky. Cavalry Battalion and is not seen in the records
again until his parole in Richmond in 1865. |
William died in
Hardin County in 1881 and wife Sarah in 1896. |
