Biography of W. D. Wood

Below is my biography of W. D. Wood. Though he was in the Army, there is no biography of him in the National Archives.

William D. Wood was born in Illinois in 1824 and moved to Hardin County, Kentucky in time to marry there in 1850. In the 1860 Census, there were three children and he is listed as a Manufacturer of Agricultural Implements, with $600 Real Estate and $1,400 Personal Estate.
William was appointed a Transportation Agent, by Major W. S. Ashe, for Raleigh, N. C. No appointment documents have been found, but he was on duty there in February and March, 1862. There are no further records of his service until his appointment as a Quartermaster Captain on October 14, 1862. He was assigned to 2nd Ky. Cavalry Battalion and is not seen in the records again until his parole in Richmond in 1865.

William died in Hardin County in 1881 and wife Sarah in 1896.
