Biography of D. H. Cram

No National Archives' biography exists for D. H. Cram since he was not in the military. Blue entries are my biography.

Daniel Houston Cram was born in New Hampshire in 1829. At some point, he moved to Alabama. His background before becoming the Superintendent of the Montgomery & West Point RR in the 1850's is unknown. He remained in that position until after the war. From 1872 - 1874, he was President and Superintendent of the Pensacola & Louisville RR (45 miles long). In 1876, he published a report on the coal market potential for Alabama coal in Cuba and Central America.
He married Clemantina in Montgomery in 1857, and they had at least two children who reached adulthood. In the 1860 Census, Cram was in Montgomery, with $6,000 of Real Estate, listed as a Civil Engineer. D. H. died in 1881; his wife in 1874, perhaps of yellow fever, which D. H. had at the same time. Both are buried in Montgomery.
