Since no biography
exists for C. S. England in the National
Archives, below is my biography. Entries in blue are references
and my additions
|
Charles S. England was 41 years old
when he was found in the 1860 Census as a farmer in northwestern
Morgan County, Alabama (the county containing Decatur). He was
married to Elizabeth Philpott (born 1819) in 1842 and had several children. He was estimated to have $1,000
real estate and $4,000 personal property. Elizabeth died in Morgan
County, Ala., in 1892. Charles is in the 1866 Alabama census, but is
not seen again. |
There is almost no documentation
regarding Mr. England. After being paid in 1862, he vanishes until a
C. S. England is found in a Virginia artillery battery. There is no
proof this is the same man, but I have included his record on the
probability that it is the same man. There is no other C. S. England
in the Confederate Citizen or Service Records. |
