Petersburg RR Shops

The Petersburg RR shops were about a mile south of the town. The building in the back is the "round" house. At the left front is a platform car. The frame works in the center are the initial work on new passenger cars. The photo was taken shortly after the capture of the city in April, 1865.

The same location and day as the photo at the top of the page. The "round" house is the left building. The right building was a car shed, where cars were kept out of the weather between runs. Just to the left of the car shed is the back end of a passenger car (probably the only war-time photo of a Confederate passenger car).
