| A destroyed locomotive captured at
Richmond's fall. Many locomotives this badly burned up were repaired
by the Confederate railroads, though with great difficulty in
finding the required replacement parts. The fire has removed the
woodwork and shows the wheels, frame and steam generation system. To
the left is the firebox; on the right is the smoke chamber and
stack; between is the horizontal boiler. |
