Sir, |
I have the honor to report that the official returns of
yesterday give an accumulation at rail road depots (south and west of
Burkeville) in Virginia and North Carolina of |
Meat |
2,250,200 |
rations |
Breadstuffs |
1,512,300 |
" |
|
In Richmond & Petersburg six days rations were reported,
including issues of Mch 29th. Unless the Danville Rd be kept open and
available, the depot accumulations above noted cannot be used. At the
same time the suspension of canal transportation beyond ??? Point & on
the Va Central Railroad beyond the Junction, reduces our local resources
almost wholly to wagon transportation from the Eastern counties, and
those immediately in rear of Genl Lee's Army. |
Instructions are required to cover the contingencies of the
coming week. |
Very Resptfully |
