Sir, |
Among the Ships which the
troubles of ??nt neighbors of So Carolina drive to our port to
discharge is the Susan G. Owens laden with ??? Tons Welsh R. R. Iron
the owners of which ??? rather than incur the cost of land carriage
desire to dispose of here if a fair price can be had ??t in undoubted
paper. We tell them it may probably sold to you for the State road
payable in State Bonds at par and we have asked them to quote a price
delivered in the River here leaving Settlement of the U. S. duties
with the purchaser. |
When we get their reply we
will appraise you of the price, they call it "Blue Ridge
pattern" it weighing 53 lbs per yard or thereabouts. We have
asked them to send us a profile of the Rails. |
We are Dear Sir |
Very respectfully Yours |

{Written up the side of the letter in what appears
to be the same hand that wrote the letter} The
Ship has yet to arrive
|
{In April of 1862, the Western & Atlantic RR had
1100 tons of new rail on hand. That may be the rail from this ship.}
