President Macon & Brunswick Rail Road |
|
Dear Sir, |
In reply to your question of
the ??? of the value of your road to Macon Arsenal, I have the honor
to state that all supplies of charcoal come to us from Dykes Mill, the
terminus of the road & that I have further made arrangements to
get all wood from the same quarter. |
For a year past I have been
getting wood & charcoal over the South Western Rail Road, but I
have never been able to get sufficient transportation & my
employees have often been idle in consequence. It was for this reason
I moved the charcoal works to Dykes Station. |
It is my firm belief that I
cannot continue work at the Arsenal without the use of your road. The
destruction of the Central Rail Road has taken away my only routes of
supply of lumber. No lumber can be obtained on the Macon & Western
Road & what little could be got on the SWn Road could not be
brought to Macon as fast as wanted. |
In view of the facts I have
telegraphed to Genl Beauregard & to General Gorgas urging a
suspension of the order to tear up the road from Dykes Station to
Buzzard Roost until the within is investigated. |
Yours very Respectfully |
Rich M. Cuyler |
