Jany. 14th 1863
 
   Resolved, That the President & Chief Engineer of the North East & South West Alabama Rail Road Company be and they are hereby authorized on behalf of the Company to make arrangements and enter into a contract with the Mobile & Ohio or the Southern Rail Road Company to run their cars and rolling stock over the track of the NE& SW Ala. rail road, from Meridian Miss to such a point as it now is or may be completed, and that the contract so entered into must be consummated by the President and Engineer acting together, and that before such contract shall be binding on the Company, the same shall be ratified by the board.
   The contract for the lease of the NE & SW Ala. rail road from Meridian Miss, to Regan and York Station in Sumpter Co. Ala. was taken up and fully discussed. The following resolution was unanimously passed, to-wit:
    Resolved, That the Board of Directors of the road refuse to ratify the contract entered into between the President of the NE & SW Ala. R Road Company and G. G. Griffin Esq., President of the Ala. & Miss. Rivers R. road in reference to the running of the NE & SW Ala. R. road from Meridian Miss. to York Station in Sumpter Co., Ala., and that the President and Engineer, or in the absence of an Engineer on the road, that Mr A. L. Whitfield, in connection with the President perfect the contract as contemplated by the resolution of this Board passed at their meeting in Eutaw on May 7th, and that the Sectry. be instructed to inform the President of the Ala. & Miss. Rivers rail road of the action of this Board.
   Mr Whitfield offered the following resolution which, on motion was unanimously adopted, Resolved that the President and Engineer of this Company are hereby instructed to ??? for a period not exceeding five years the portion of the NE & SW Ala. rail road in operation from Meridian Miss to York Station in Ala. to such of the rail road Companies having roads connecting therewith as will make the most of available terms, subject to the ratification of this Board.
