Jackson
April 24, 1863

Brig. Gen. John Adams
Commanding, &c.

General,
The lieutenant-general commanding directs that you order the Fifteenth and Twenty-sixth Mississippi Regiments and one battery Point Coupée artillery, now near Jackson, to move at once by the Southern Railroad to Morton, the station this side of Forrest, under command of the senior officer in the regiments. He will move his force on to Forrest or Lake, or to such point as circumstances or the position of the enemy may make necessary. They have certainly been at Lake Station.
