Arrival and Departure of Yankee Prisoners
Of the five hundred and fifty Yankee prisoners who left Richmond, four hundred and five reached Augusta Monday afternoon, and left an hour afterwards on the Savannah Road {Augusta & Savannah RR; Central (of Georgia) RR} for Macon, on their way to Americus, near which place they are to be imprisoned.
Two of the prisoners were frozen to death between Weldon and Raleigh {Raleigh & Gaston RR}, and twelve others were so severely frozen that they had to be left at the hospital in the latter place.
Thirty-one of the prisoners escaped between Branchville and Augusta {South Carolina RR} from one of the box cars. Let our people look out for them, says the "{Augusta} Constitutionalist."
