Shelby & Broad River Railroad
This road has now been chartered by the States of North and South Carolina. The Company will be organized in a few days, and we understand that arrangements have been made to place immediately under contract that portion of the road from Shelby to the Magnetic Iron Works, Cherokee Ford, Broad River. The Company are authorized to connect with either the Spartanburg & Union Railroad, the Charlotte & South Carolina Railroad, or the King's Mountain Railroad at Yorkville. If the Company should connect with the Spartanburg & Union Road, at Spartanburg Court House, the road, by the extension of thirty-two miles to Greenville Court House, will, it is claimed by its friends, become the route of the air line from Atlanta to Richmond, and will shorten the distance from Charlotte, N. C., to Atlanta about 125 miles.
