Collision on the N. C. Road |
On Wednesday night last a
collision occurred on the N. C. Railroad about 9 miles from this place
near Query's Turnout. The Express Train going north came in contact
with the Express Train going south, damaging both trains considerably
and wounding the Engineer and two negroes on the train coming south --
one negro had both legs broken. None of the passengers were materially
injured. The train going north should have left the main track at the
Turnout for the purpose of allowing the other train to pass, but it is
said that the engineer could not stop his locomotive owing to some
defect in the machinery, hence the collision. |
