Railroad Accident |
The Augusta Chronicle learns
that an explosion occurred on the South Carolina Railroad, nineteen
miles from Charleston, Thursday last, by which the engine was entirely
demolished; the engineer, John Fitzhugh, and a fireman were instantly
killed, and another fireman so badly scalded that he died two hours
afterwards. The conductor's car was also smashed up, and it was
miraculous that no one was injured in it. None of the passengers
sustained any injuries. The engineer and firemen were residents of
Charleston, and the former had been connected with the road for a long
time. |
