Fatal Explosion of a Locomotive
{South Carolina RR} |
An explosion of a fatal and
painful character took place at the Railroad depot in Columbia, Tuesday
morning. We learn that the locomotive "Thomas C. Perrin," with steam up,
while moving about the depot, suddenly exploded with terrific force,
some portions of the boiler being blown a distance of over 400 yards.
But two persons were upon the locomotive at the time of the explosion,
Mr. Keen, the engineer, and a fireman, whose name we did not learn. Mr.
Keen was literally blown into pieces. The fireman had his skull
fractured and was not expected to live above an hour. |
