Railroad Accident |
A severe accident took place
on the South Carolina Railroad, on Thursday, afternoon, by which
several lives were lost, and a number of persons injured. The train
was a short distance below Lewisville, when an axle of the mail car
broke, and almost in an instant the several coaches were jammed
together. The following persons, who were standing on the platforms,
were instantly killed: John Webb, Company H, 3d Georgia; Q. Hayes,
Company F, 4th Florida Battalion; a colored boy, belonging to Mr.
Mowry, and a train hand (negro) names Spencer. Several others were
more or less injured. One man had both legs broken and two had each a
leg broken. We learn that one of the injured men died at the
hospital. |
